Maruja Mallo was born under the name of Ana María Gómez González in Nursery (Lugo) in 1902.

Due to her father’s work they moved to Avilés in 1913 where Maruja entered the School of Arts and Crafts where she would meet the painter Luis Bayón and with whom she would later meet again in Madrid.
